HEAVEN & HELL INTRODUCES THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
 
Highly Anticipated New Album from Dio, Iommi, Butler, and Appice,
Their First in 17 Years, Features Epic First Single "Bible Black"

LOS ANGELES -- After finishing several heralded world tours as Heaven &
Hell last summer, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny
Appice were tighter than ever before, both musically and personally.
Agreeing that it would be a shame to stop making music together at tours
end, the quartet began writing, first in England at Iommi's home studio and
later in Los Angeles at Dio's studio. "The band had gotten too good to just
walk away," Dio says. "We wanted to show people that we were still capable
of giving them new music that measured up to what we'd done in the past."
 
With that goal in mind, the band once again converged on Rockfield Studios
in Wales last winter, the same place they used 17 years earlier to record
their last album, Dehumanizer. The result is the long awaited new album THE
DEVIL YOU KNOW, featuring 10 soon-to-be-classic tracks from the Dio-fronted
version of Black Sabbath. The highly anticipated set arrives on April 28
from Rhino for a suggested list price of $18.98 (physical) and $9.99
(digital).
 
It took less than three weeks to finish the album, with most of the songs
only needing a couple of takes. "It was good to play them live in the
studio. It keeps you on edge," Iommi says. "I mean, somewhere along the
line we were gonna have to play them live; might as well start in the
studio." Butler adds: "We've learned from the past that you can kill a song
doing it over and over. The first Sabbath albums were done in two or three
days. Technically they weren't great, but vibe-wise they were great. If you
capture that feeling, that's all you need."
 
"Bible Black," the epic first single, begins with Iommi on acoustic guitar
behind Dio's plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts to a menacing stomp
for the rest of this dark tale about a book of sinister scriptures. One of
the first songs written for the album, Dio says it established a tone for
the rest of the album. "When you start off with a blockbuster like that, it
makes the rest of the album so much easier because it gives you a benchmark
to measure the other songs against."
 
Iommi proves he hasn't lost the ability to inspire six-string envy,
unleashing riffs like a pack of rabid hellhounds on "Atom And Evil,"
"Fear," "Neverwhere," and "Eating The Cannibals," a tune about doing more
than biting the hand that feeds. Butler and Appice slow the pace while
ramping up the intensity on "Follow The Tears" and "Double The Pain" and
"Breaking Into Heaven," the latter diverging from its glacial procession
for Dio's majestic chorus about fallen angels planning an attack on
paradise.

April 20, 2009 — Burbank, CA — Reprise Records’ Grammy®Award winning rock band Green Day have announced that they will hit the road for their first proper tour of the United States and Canada in more than three years beginning July 3rd in Seattle, WA. The first leg of the tour will cross North America through the summer and finish up with two shows in Los Angeles on August 26th.
Green Day are touring in support of their long-awaited eighth studio album 21st Century Breakdown, which will be released globally by Reprise Records on Friday, May 15th, 2009. Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been at work writing, arranging, and recording 21st Century Breakdown since early 2006 with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). The first single, “Know Your Enemy” was released to radio and digital retailers on April 16th.
Green Day recently performed 21st Century Breakdown in its entirety during a series of warm-up club shows for hometown fans in the Bay Area. In its review of a show at Oakland’s Fox Theater, Rolling Stone commented that the band, augmented by guitarists Jason White and Jeff Matika, and keyboardist Jason Freese, had the “Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid” and that the album is “rock opera in which the rock always comes first.” “21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s best album,” the reviewer concluded, “and at the Fox, they proved that the rock opera can be as punk as a Clash 45.”
21st Century Breakdown is Green Day’s first studio album since 2004’s two-time Grammy Award-winning punk-rock opera American Idiot, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, and went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide.

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Mat Kearney announces a series of summer headline dates in support of his new album, City of Black & White, set for release on Aware/Columbia Records on May 19.  Kearney will begin the tour season by sharing the stage with England’s own Keane in May, including a sold out show at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
 
The video for “Closer To Love,” the first single from City of Black & White, premiered on AOL and began airing last week on VH1.  USA Today heralded the song “Pick of the Week” on March 3rd, saying “The first single…takes life’s storms and unexpected tragedies as the starting point for a gently reassuring song about hope, intimacy and an unquenchable spirit.”

Through a “tweet” on Twitter today, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND have announced that they are giving away their new single, “Funny the Way It Is,” as a free download for one week. Dave (@davejmatthews) and bassist Stefan Lessard (@slessard) are both very active on Twitter, keeping touch with their huge fanbase and decided it was the perfect place to get the word out. The song comes off their upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which hits stores on June 2^nd. It will be the band's first studio album since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. The "GrooGrux King" in the album title refers to Moore’s nickname within the group. Matthews created all of the artwork for Big Whiskey, including the richly detailed cover illustration that puts a GrooGrux spin on New Orleans’ traditional Mardi Gras parades while evoking the joy and the sorrow expressed in the album’s songs. Matthews has designed logos and other elements in the past, but this is the first time he has created the entire packaging for a Dave Matthews Band album.

Guitarist Tim Reynolds will play on the album, making it his first recording with DMB since 1998’s Before These Crowded Streets. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Goo Goo Dolls). Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King will also feature the recording debuts of Rashawn Ross who joined the band in 1996 but hadn’t played on any of their studio releases yet and Moore’s replacement, saxophonist Jeff Coffin who also is a member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. DMB just released a trailer for the new album which can be seen below.

Dave Matthews Band kicks off its 2009 tour tonight with a show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be on the road through October 2^nd. THE VEER UNION will be releasing their debut album, Against The Grain, next Tuesday, April 21st. For the recording, the band chose to work with two of the industry’s hottest producers in Greg Archilla (Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Buckcherry) and Brian Howes (Hinder, Daughtry, Skillet, Puddle of Mudd).

The Veer Union was formed in late 2004 by vocalist Crispin and guitarist Eric. Originally from Port Alberni, BC, the two longtime friends surprisingly found themselves living as neighbors. At the time Crispin was the front man of Everything After, where creative differences led to his departure. Crispin was gaining attention as a songwriter with credits on Motley Crue’s drummer Tommy Lee’s solo CD Tommyland: The Ride. Eric, who had recently relocated back to Vancouver after a stint in Los Angeles with 40 Foot Echo (Hollywood Records), was working on projects of his own.

After a search for the right members to fill out the line-up, The Veer Union got to work. After nearly two years of endless touring across the continent, the band signed a record deal with Universal/Motown Records out of New York City. The Canadian melodic-rock group is currently on tour with arena rockers Hinder and Theory Of A Deadman in support of their upcoming album.

Manchester Orchestra and Favorite Gentlemen/Canvasback music are proud to present “I’ve Got Friends” the third chapter of their video series today on MySpace.

The full-album series concept was conceived by the Emmy Award winning directing team of Clay Lipsky and Jason Bognacki of Destroy Rock Music Inc., whom also directed “I Can Barely Breathe” from the band’s debut I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child.

Lipsky notes that the vision behind the videos are to “create a cinematic collage of decaying film and lost memories intertwined with a loose narrative about a young woman on a surreal journey to find what she is missing.” The videos to follow will continue to discover the many layers hiding within the new record.
